Roller blinds are excellent for high traffic areas like offices and restaurants. They are easy to operate and they are made of synthetic fabric that is easy to clean. Here are simple cleaning tips for roller blinds, from simple dust removal to cleaning of deep-seated dirt and stains.

Regular Cleaning

Cleaning your blinds regularly as a maintenance step will prevent dirt from building up quickly. It is a smart move to make an effort of cleaning regularly as it will bring better results in the long run.

  1. Roll down the blinds by extending them fully.
  2. Vacuum the roller blinds from left to right, top to bottom. Use the soft brush attachment.
  3. If you don’t have a vacuum cleaner you can use a damp microfiber cloth instead.

Spot Cleaning

If there happens to be a stain on one area that cannot be removed by water alone, you need to spot clean.

  1. Roll down the blinds by extending them fully.
  2. Mix cleaning solution with water.
  3. Dip sponge into cleaning solution and rub affected area.

  5. Repeat process until spot is clean.

Note that the spot cleaned may appear lighter than the other areas of the blinds.

When the roller blinds are left too long without cleaning, it would be difficult to restore its original condition with just using a vacuum or wiping with cloth. You can only address the problem by doing a deep cleaning.

  3. Fill your bathtub with warm water halfway. If your blind is too large, you can do it in a kiddie pool instead.
  4. Add laundry detergent and mix until it starts to bubble.
  5. Add small amounts of bleach if the blinds are white. Mix well.
  6. Place the blinds into the tub carefully in a flat manner or you can fold them if the blind is too long.
  7. Leave it in the tub for a few hours to soak.
  8. If there are any stains, scrub the spot with a toothbrush.
  9. Drain the water from the tub.
  10. Fill the tub with clean water to rinse.
  11. If you have someone to assist you, have him hold the blinds up so you can spray water on it using the flexible shower head.
  12. Hang the blinds on a clothesline outside and wait for it to dry completely.
  13. Attach the fabric into the roller and mount it over the window.
